The EO Birmingham peer-to-peer network is full of seasoned entrepreneurs who have developed successful careers and are using their experiences to help mentor their peers. One great example of the wealth of expertise at our disposal comes with one of our members, Fred Henry.
Fred is the vice president of his family’s business, Robert F. Henry Tile Company, which has been supplying tile to Alabama consumers since 1933 and has seven locations across three states. For Fred, business is family, and family is business. After attending the University of Virginia (at one point, he was pre-med!), Fred moved back to Alabama to work at Henry Tile and help develop the Birmingham-area operation.
Now, he’s been in Birmingham for 17 years, helping to expand his family’s operations and spearhead several key initiatives, including a rebranding campaign.
The core of his family’s business is in Montgomery, so Fred wanted to connect with professionals in the Birmingham area. He spoke to Davies Hood, who is a member of EO Birmingham, and Davies extolled the virtues of our organization. Convinced that it was something worth exploring, Fred joined.
Since he has been a member, Fred has been most impressed about the educational opportunities afforded by being an EO Birmingham member, as well as the ability to share information with peers – where they’ve been, what they’ve done, and how they’ve achieved success and dealt with problems.
He finds great value in learning from mistakes people have made. He also enjoys bouncing ideas and concepts off of his peers at monthly meetings – especially in a confidential setting.
Like many of our members, Fred is active in the community. He tries to be a partner to groups who need donated materials, and has helped his company participate in Habitat for Humanity’s ReStores non-profit home improvement stores. He also aspires to be a part of the Design District development in Avondale.
